安全保护功能在许多自动化控制领域都是必须的. 安全系统包括生产线上的紧急停止开关, 安全输入信号比如安全光幕和安全门互锁开关，这些都可以用于自动的停止机器上潜在的危险动作。安全系统的构建需要考虑的是安全等级的高低。早期的安全网络仅仅依靠接线方式实现安全,在相关的地方标准中有定义一些冗余接线或特殊保护方法。
一个网络中的标准安全组件；连接机械接触，如安全接触元件；用于连接倍加福生产的电感式控制安全传感器（SN传感器）；安全模块有两个安全输入口；安全模块有两个安全输入口和两个安全输出口，允许输入口与输出口之间通过参数位逻辑连接；安全控制柜和总线模块。
VAA-2E2A-G12-SAJ/EA2L是一个带有2个安全输入端和2个普通晶体管输出的AS-Interface模块。双通道的机械触点或单个机械触点都可以接入到2个安全输入端。普通晶体管输出端最大允许电流4A（每通道最大2A）。
坚固的外壳无需任何工具即可实现快速安装和拆卸。不锈钢外壳及内部浇铸特性确保了耐用性和高防护等级。通过穿刺技术实现与AS-Interface扁平电缆之间的连接。扁平电缆的走向可以换向。所有输入端口的连接均为金属螺纹，确保了连接的可靠性。传感器通过一个
M12x1的圆形SPEEDCON快速连接。
每个通道的开关状态都有一个LED相应的显示AS-Interface网络电压也有另一个相应的LED指示，地址为0或通讯错误及外围故障也有相应的LED指示。如果一个通讯错误产生，输出会复位（如P0=1，则会保持）。
如使用双通道，可以实现符合标准ISO 13849-1安全等级4/PL e, EN/IEC 61508 SIL 3的安全系统。如使用2个单通道，可以实现符合标准ISO 13849-1安全等级2/PL c, EN/IEC 61508 SIL 2的安全系统。
两个通道的机械触点有回路监控。LEDs用于显示AS-Interface网络电压以及外部电源状态。
