RFID 表示"无线射频识别技术"，指的是使用无线电波来自动识别物体或人的技术。通常情况下，一个序列号或其他产品/对象相关信息（“标识符”）被存储在微芯片。芯片连接到天线，该天线能够使芯片传送识别所需的信息至阅读设备。天线和芯片的组合被称为“RFID标签”或“RFID应答器”。
来自“识别控制”家族的RFID控制接口代表通往更高层系统的网关，如PLC或其它IT系统。它们可用于所有常见的现场总线系统和工业以太网协议(PROFIBUS, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, MODBUS TCP/IP, EtherCAT)，为几乎每一个识别应用提供很多选择。对于简单的系统集成，倍加福提供现成的功能块。识别控制系统以模块化方式设计：所有连接的RFID读头可以以同样的方式操作，而与它们的频率无关。
