AS-Interface 的主要特性:拓扑机构灵活: 树形,星形,线形等；便于集成到高层总线 (EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet. ProfiNet ….)；有支持PLC板卡系列的扫描器；穿刺技术便于安装连接；自动识别替换的子站。
利用传统的布线模式来定位有缺陷的传感器系统颇为棘手。在查验出故障位置之前，机器通常都必须长时间关闭。
在现代的控制系统概念中，如AS-i总线，特殊集成的电路板给予传感器某种程度的“智能”从而增加其功能范围。这些电感式传感器能够配合高级别的PLC对自身的供电，数据交换等作业情况进行监控。
在实践中，放置电感式传感器能保证驱动器和活动表面之间的距离控制在约50%的额定工作距离Sn。这个开关从而保证了安全工作距离内的作业Sa =（ 0到0.81 ）?Sn。若驱动器位于Sa和实际操作的距离Sr之间，故障预警显示单位（数据单位1 ）就会出现，以便检测错误发生之前给出误操作提示。
数据位1的默认数据值“1”，意思是“正常状态”。如果故障预警显示出现，其数据值会变为“0”。此值在感应传感器完全阻尼或目标已接近至安全距离内的某点之前保持不变，随后再自行删除，即Sr+滞后。
