可以将4 ~20 mA设备连接到远程I/O，例如流量变送器、阀门定位器、压力传感器或者温度变送器。诸如热电偶（TCs）、电阻式温度检测器（RTDs）、机械触点以及声光报警器等设备也可以连接到远程I/O。远程I/O系统能够兼容PROFIBUS DP, MODBUS RTU, MODBUS TCP/IP 和 FOUNDATION fieldbus等网络协议。
FB远程I/O可安装在危险区Zone1或Zone21区。信号调节模块可以将现场信号转换并传递到安全区的控制系统中。FB远程I/O通过标准总线技术（Profibus，Modbus and several other）将传统传感器和执行机构连接到DCS系统
输入/输出模块在系统中允许带电插拔而无需获得带电操作许可。
多种单通道/多通道I/O模块具有本安型接口和增安型接口，分别连接本安型现场仪表和隔爆型仪表。远程I/O系统可以很容易的满足用户工程的需求。
