无线通讯很快在自动化应用中获得了认可。对过程自动化而言，构成挑战的不是数据的数量，而是架接距离。每当工厂架构不允许传统的接线时，测量值只能通过频繁访问现场的方式才能获取。
为此，无线HART提供了一个高性价比的解决方案，使得测量值在常规基础上可被利用，这就提高了工厂的生产质量，也使得工厂的运营更加经济。
在无线HART构建的网络中，每个设备可以同时作为信号源和中继器。通过贯穿整个网络的单个信号的路径，一个广阔的网络结构能够被建成。
无线HART适配器能够直接或通过一根短电缆连接所有标准HART或者4 ~20mA现场设备。它通过HART读取现场设备数据或者将4 ~20mA信号转换成数字信号并将该信号传输到无线HART网络中。这样高度灵活的解决方案能够将每一个传统现场设备转变成为无线HART现场设备。
